Limericks

This week in literacy we have been looking at limericks. A limerick is a 5 lined rhyming poem. The first and second line have to rhyme, then the third and fourth line have to rhyme. The final line has to rhyme with the first and second line. I found this activity pretty easy. I did find it a little bit difficult to make up my own poem though. Myths

The past three weeks in T1 we have been reading and writing myths. We had to base our myths on a natural phenomenon. I based mine on rock slides. Here is my writing.

Goals For Term 2

For this term I am going to set goals in which I would like to complete by the end of the term. One of my goals is to focus more in class and pay more attention so I can get more work done. Another thing I would like to achieve is to post more each week because I haven't been posting that often. My last goal is to get better at reading and start doing it for often.

Diary Entry

This week for reading we have been working on our diary entries. We had to write a little diary entry about what happened on the day of the explosion or a few days after. I chose to write from a daughters prospective. Here is my writing.

Visiting author

Yesterday we had one of the authors of 'The Mines Afire' come in to talk about the book. Her name is Thelma Eakin. We got to ask her questions about the book and why she decided to write it. She told us that she wanted to write the book because not many people had written a book like it before. She brought in a safety lamp and a little brass man she had been gifted for doing a play. Here is a picture of Thelma.

Brunner Mine Site

On Monday this week our class went out to the Brunner Mine. In class we have been reading a book about what happened when the explosion happened called 'The Mines Afire'. So we decided to go out to the mine to have a look at all of the ruins and historical things that are there. While we were there we did a photo shoot in older clothes. We also got put into groups and had to do a mime. The other groups had to guess what part of the book we were acting out. Here is a picture of the book.

Week 5 Blog Post

This week in T3 we have been working on our country studies! Since I moved to this last week I got to choose what country I wanted to study. I chose South Korea because I find their culture very interesting. I'm still working on my presentation so hopefully I will be able to post it next week. We need to find the answers to 10 questions about our countries (flag meaning, money). South Korea is a part of east Asia and has one of the most heavy guarded boarders in the world (North and South Korea boarder) For more interesting facts check out my next blog post coming soon.

Jacky Ha-Ha

This book is about a young girl called Jacky Heart or Because of her stutter and sense of humor people call her Jacky Ha-Ha! When Jacky finds out it is the last day of the holidays she gets the best idea EVER: To go down to the boat walk and eat all the food there put together. In the end the all get a bit sick. Ok its the first day back at school and GUESS WHAT? Jacky gets 5 detentions! So instead of doing that she decides to audition for the play!

Literacy Reflection T2W7

Writing
This week for writing we wrote a description about Miss Reissmann our NEW teacher! I think I could add in more F.A.N.B.O.Y.S. and Conjunctions. I loved doing this task and next week we are describing a family member so I'm going to do my Granddad. So here it is! All so comment who you would describe!! 

Reading

This week for reading we have done a book summary about the book Leave. I liked this book because it was really Sweet. I could add in more words next time. Here it is!

This book is fabulous. This book is about a young boy called Mark. Mark is like all kids he loves his dog and his best friend Jessie but he also has cancer. He has had enough of hospitals so he decides to climb to the top of Mt Rainier. He literately goes through it all. He nearly gets beet to death, he nearly drowns in a ice cold river, his dog nearly dies, he has to lie about who he was and along with that he has to fight his illness. Go read the book its great! 

Fantastic Mr Fox

I love this book. This book is about a fox named Mr fox and his family live in a fox hole. Mr fox would go out and steel a chicken each night and the farmer would mad. The farmer wanted to shot the whole family of foxes. My favorite part is when the foxes home gets fixed again.

The Twits

The Twits

I think this book is so cool. This book is about two horrible people that keep monkeys in cages and glue birds to trees so they can eat them. The"Twits" used to be in a monkey circus. They trained monkeys to do everything on there heads. Even the baby monkey. The monkeys even ate on there heads! The twits started to prank each other. The best part in the story is when the monkeys in the cage brake free.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars because I didn't like that they keep monkeys in cages.

Reading Reflection T4 W4

This week for reading we had to write about a article and find the authors purpose and write a paragraph about it.  I found this easy but I could improve the colors. I did mine about a dog dancing in the rain. Here it is.

Fortunately the milk.

Dad there is no milk. Will I ever get back home to my kids, I mean I just went to a store, now I'm in a hot air balloon with a dinosaur. "I think we found the Green shiny rock (Emerald)" BUT ITS IN A VOLCANO GODS EYE. The milk it landed on top of splods head. SPLOD IS MAD.  Will I get home or will the milk get lost... 
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book for people with a good sense of humor. This book made me feel happy and surprised.

Literacy Reflection T3 W8

This week for literacy we had to make a word cloud about a book. I chose to do the BFG by Roald Dahl. I found it challenging but I did it. My next step is to get more word on to my word cloud. I hope we do this again because it was fun. Here is my world cloud.

Literacy Reflection T3 W6

This week for literacy we have done writing and reading. For reading I had to read a book called Wild Life. Then we had to describe the setting, plot, characters, problem, resolution and genre. I found this a little bit hard because I had heaps of other follow ups to do by Friday. My next step is to get more done. 
For writing we had to write a introduction to our house hold machine. We had to pick a thing in our house then write a introduction about it. I found this hard to do because I had trouble trying to pick a thing to write about. My next step is to add more detail.

Toaster

A toaster is a machine that heat up some foods. Most people use the toaster for breakfast to make toast. Which is bread that is kind of cooked.

A toaster looks like a big square with two thick cuts in it. They can come in all shapes, colors and sizes. Some are red some are white. The lever on it is like a big oval. There are four buttons on the top which control how it cooks like if it is a crumpet it will cook in differently to how it cooks bread. There is a little twisty dial that controls how long the bread stays in the toaster. There is a button you can use to pop you're toast up.

In this book it is about a little girl Named Matilda. She is a polite little girl. Her parents on the other hand are nasty old bats. They think Matilda has no skills and no respect, even though that is the opposite. One day while her Mother is at Bingo and her father is at work, she decides to go down to the village library where she meets the librarian. Her first day of school was amazing she meets Miss Honey. Matilda thinks if a calculator can work out the equation then why cant my brain do it as well. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars * * * * *

Kensuke's kingdome

If you are into adventure then this book is for you. This story is about when a boy and his family go out on a boat for the day, when suddenly, him and his dog Stella, fall over the edge of the boat, his parents have no time to save them. They get washed up on a island where they find a strange man named Kensuke he is from Japan. They find life hard living on a island with no one they know. Kensuke would bring them food, water and blankets made of flax. I would give this book 4 out of five stars.

The BFG

Genre : Adventure

The BFG is a amazing story written by Roald dahl. I thing the book is full of imagination. Sophie the little girl has been stolen from her bed in the middle of the night. She was probably thinking what is going on when she saw the Big friendly giant. Let me tell you something the BFG is not a killer giant instead her is a peaceful, gentle and kind giant. He is my Favorite character in the whole story.This book makes me fell sad and happy. Sad because all the other big giants treat the BFG like he is nothing. The toss him around like a ball. Happy because the book uses a lot of imagination and it takes you on a mind adventure. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
